About Me:

What gives my life meaning is the process of self-realisation through relationship.

These are relationships with myself, family, friends, co-workers, society, nature, and a power greater than all of these.

About 25 years ago I discovered that I preferred to engage in activities and relationships that are transformative (fulfilling and leading to greater self-knowledge and quality of connection) rather than others were not.

My main practice for self-discovery is the martial art - aikido. What I learn on the mat in aikido, I try to bring out into the world in my every day life.

Aikido is a martial art with its roots going back to the teachings of Bodhidharma, the 6th Century monk that brought Buddhism to China. Bodhidharma taught the principles of integrated body/mind to both spiritual seekers and warriors - meditation was enhanced through martial training and vice versa. Aikido, literally translated, is the “way of harmonising ki”. The principle teachings of Bhodidharma were concerned with the application of “ki” or “chi” energy. This is the energy which connects the body/mind of an individual with the universe. This energy is the basis of “soft power”, which when concentrated like water or wind can move everything before it.

The practice of aikido starts by discovering the power of ki, and then leads to its application through compassion and wisdom. The power is enhanced exponentially when the practitioner learns how to surrender unconditionally to a greater power through compassion.

In work, my passion is in developing organisational structures that are based on the application of soft power, hence “ki work”.
